You can't turn a corner in Rome - the Eternal City - without coming face-to-face with its extraordinary history. Why not make the most of it with an expert leading the way on a walking tour? Here's just a taster of the options.
Book a tour of the Vatican Museums for deeper insights into Michelangelo's famous ceiling, as well as stunning frescoes by the likes of Botticelli and Perugino, Raphael's teacher.
Avoid the sub-par tourist traps on a foodie tour with a city native. Seek out the best restaurants and market stalls between sampling local faves from gelato to succulent supplì.
Once the worst corner of the city, today Rome's Jewish Ghetto boasts superb restaurants and gorgeous landmarks, including two grand synagogues, the Jewish Museum, and the ancient Teatro Marcello.
Free walking tours are perfect for those visiting on shoestring budgets or simply unsure how much to pay in advance. You might not be surprised to hear that they're not strictly free, however. Remember your guide does this for a living so bring some cash in order to tip them what you think it was worth at the end. Otherwise skulk away guiltily!
Rome's city center is almost wall-to-wall with significant landmarks. There are few cities so easy to tour with just a map and there are even apps available for further guidance. For a truly enlightening experience, however, you can't beat a good guide! And with so many distractions along the bounty of sights, you'll probably find sticking to an expert itinerary to be your best bet.

We loved Dennas! He was smart and funny and very engaging. We are a family of four and the way he interacted with my 8-year old son was wonderful! Dennas kept him engaged and interested. Our 3 hours flew by. I've been to both the Colosseum and the Forum before without a tour guide, and I really feel the experience with a guide like Dennas really enhances the experience. My only suggestion would be to get audio that has a longer range, so that we can be more than a few feet away from the guide without losing connection.
I did the tour with my son (10 years) on a Sunday morning and we had a perfect last day in Rome. Our guide was very friendly and professionnal regarding the anecdotes of the history of the Via Appia. Some small parts are a bit more tricky to ride because of the car traffic. Overall I recommand the tour to everyone who can ride a bike.
Chronological explanation of Caravaggio's life visiting the locations and the background of his paintings including lost ones made me feel his life in Rome more closely. The setting for wine was beautiful and the taste of wine was authentic from Lazio, which had minerals.
We had a very nice and interesting tour of the Colosseum and the Forum. Ludwig was very knowledgable and shared really fun and interesting information. The whole Roman empire came to life! We would surely be delighted to book him again when we come back to Rome.
Our Driver Paulo was great and patient. Our tour guide Iliria in Pompeii was so knowledgeable and again so patient with our 3 year old. Definitely recommend this day trip to anyone and everyone! Wonderful memories made here!
