  • Skaftafell: Ice Cave Tour & Glacier Hike

    1. Skaftafell: Ice Cave Tour & Glacier Hike

Explore breathtaking ice formations and glacier mills. Marvel at a naturally-formed, blue ice cave and learn how glaciers are formed. A professional hiking guide will take you to the base of Falljökull, an outlet glacier of the Vatnajökull ice cap and lead you up to the cave. We were meant to take a morning tour but had unforeseen car troubles and were afraid we would miss our tour. Ryan was so understanding and allowed us to join the afternoon tour instead. Janet was our guide and absolutely AMAZING! She was so knowledgeable about the glacier and ice caves--taking us to three ice caves during our visit as well as all over the glacier. She was so kind and helpful to my in-laws,who were on the tour with us and needed to take a few breaks throughout. She made sure it was a wonderful experience for our entire group, and she took picture after picture of us! This was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Iceland-- the weather was incredible, the area was gorgeous, and it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thank you, Janet and Ryan!

  • Ice Cave by Katla Volcano Super Jeep from Vik

    6. Ice Cave by Katla Volcano Super Jeep from Vik

From Vík, take a jeep ride to the natural ice cave at Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, situated below the Katla volcano. Equipped with crampons and a helmet, you’ll be ready to explore this natural phenomenon. Wander through the cave and marvel at spectacular color combinations of blue, gray and black, as your guide tells you about the glacier and the ice cave’s formation.

I really enjoyed the glacier walk. I wish that the group was smaller so we didn’t have to wait for groups to go inside the cave. If we had been a group of 10-15 we would only have to wait for 2 groups instead of the 4-5 we had to stand and wait for. I also wish that a bit more context was given - I knew we would be going to the glacier by jeep but I would have liked to know how long it would take for us to walk out to the glacier itself. I also think having clothing that the tour guides recommend would be good to have - I know it says to bring winter clothes and rain gear but I would have loved specifics so I could have been a little more prepared. Definitely recommend though! Mike and Sven were great guides and I learned a lot. Beautiful unique scenery too.

  • Katla Ice Cave and Super Jeep Tour from Reykjavik/Vik

    7. Katla Ice Cave and Super Jeep Tour from Reykjavik/Vik

Your guide will pick you up in Reykjavik or Vik in a Super Jeep and you’ll soon experience breathtaking views as you drive along the country's spectacular south coast. Along the way you will visit the small town of Vík and then take a turn onto a rural road only accessible by Super Jeep. Stop at Kötlujökull Glacier, where you’ll find a stunning ice cave to explore. Admire the interior of the magnificent ice cave with an experienced guide. Head back to the Super Jeep for the return drive to Reykjavik or Vik. On the way back you'll stop to take in the popular Skógafoss waterfall.

I did not know what to expect from this experience, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself: I liked the fact that we not only did this activity but bookended the day with a visit to both Skogafoss waterfall (MY FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH) and Seljandsfoss waterfall. Those were some nice surprises (I didn't know those stops were a part of the package!). I always rent a car when I'm in Iceland but I did enjoy being driven around for a day (was a nice break). The van was super comfortable and I met some lovely people - one of whom I will probably be traveling back to Iceland with next year (I'm from Canada, she's from Germany)! I suggest bringing hiking boots for this adventure - crampons are good for most any shoe but you are on a glacier for part of this experience and so it's better to have the stability of a good boot than not.

  • South Coast: ATV Quad Bike 2-Hour Safari

The adventure starts with a short safety briefing and instruction on how to operate the ATV's. When everyone is ready, it's take off time, when you'll head for the majestic black sand plains of Sólheimasandur. Crossing this desert-like landscape, stop by the famous DC3 plane that crashed on the sands on 1973. The guide will lead the group further over the sands to the spectacular coastline to witness amazing views of the surrounding area. From the beach, you will be able to see Dyrhólaey peninsula, the southernmost tip of Iceland. looking inland, the marvellous Mýrdalsjökull glacier can be seen in the distance. Heading back over the sands and following the Jökulsá river, this amazing adventure will conclude as you cross a river to enter a stunning mountain valley.

This tour was the highlight of our trip! Our guide Simeon was great and took us on some amazing trails! You go through rivers, onto the beach, and past some airplane wreckage. The end was my favorite when we went through moss covered canyons. Honestly it is well worth the money and I would absolutely do it again! Just book it. You won’t regret it.

Our guide BG was amazing. You're lucky if you get him! He was full of cheeky, witty jokes, and he is extremely knowledgeable and insightful. To be honest, I was feeling under the weather. Everyone else in the trip was pretty hyped about everything and so BG was keeping up with their energy. But when he spoke to me, he matched my energy, and treated me kindly with respect. What a great guy! The trip itself was amazing too. We got very wet at the locations, from waterfalls to the black beach. So be prepared for that! It was truly awesome and inspiring. Highly recommend!
